Overview
This specialized scan uses high-frequency sound waves to measure the speed and direction of blood flow through vital abdominal vessels. By “color-coding” the blood movement, radiologists can identify blockages, clots, and abnormal narrowing that a standard scan might miss. It is most commonly used to evaluate the liver (portal system), kidneys (renal arteries), and the aorta.
