A Urea test (often referred to as BUN or Blood Urea Nitrogen) measures the amount of nitrogen in your blood that comes from the waste product urea. Urea is produced in the liver when the body breaks down proteins. It is then transported to the kidneys, filtered out of the blood, and removed from the body through urine.
This test is the primary tool used to evaluate how well your kidneys and liver are functioning.
