Urine Culture Sensitivity

A Urine Culture involves placing a small amount of urine on a “growth medium” (agar plate) and incubating it at body temperature for 24 to 48 hours. If bacteria are present, they grow into clusters called “colonies.” The lab then counts these colonies to determine if an infection is present. The Sensitivity part involves testing those colonies against different antibiotics to see which ones are the most effective killers.
