A Stool for Occult Blood (often called an FOBT or FIT) is a screening test used to detect “hidden” (occult) blood in the stool that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
This test is a front-line tool for detecting Colorectal Cancer and polyps (small growths on the colon lining) in their earliest, most treatable stages. Because polyps and early cancers often bleed only slightly and intermittently, this chemical check is more sensitive than a simple visual inspection.
