Research shows that cancerous prostate cells primarily release “bound” PSA, whereas healthy or merely enlarged prostate cells release more “free” PSA. Therefore, if your Total PSA is high, a higher percentage of Free PSA is actually a good sign—it suggests the issue is likely benign.
