The Kappa Free Light Chain assay is a highly sensitive blood test used to measure the amount of “free” kappa proteins in the blood. In a healthy immune system, plasma cells produce two types of light chains—Kappa and Lambda—which usually link up with “heavy chains” to form complete antibodies. When these light chains remain unlinked, they are called “free light chains.”
