Cysticercosis is not caused by eating undercooked pork (which causes adult tapeworms in the gut), but by ingesting eggs found in food or water contaminated by human feces. Once swallowed, the eggs hatch into larvae (cysticerci) that migrate to muscles, the eyes, or most commonly, the brain (Neurocysticercosis). The IgG test identifies the immune system’s long-term defense response to these “cysts.”
