The Mumps IgM (Immunoglobulin M) test is used to detect a current or recent infection with the mumps virus. IgM antibodies are the “first responders” of the immune system; they appear shortly after exposure and typically disappear within a few weeks to months as the body transitions to long-term (IgG) protection.
