When the Hepatitis B virus enters the body, the immune system begins producing antibodies against the “core” of the virus. The IgM version is the “first responder” antibody. It appears shortly after the Surface Antigen (HBsAg) and remains detectable for several months. Eventually, as the infection ages or resolves, the body switches to producing IgG antibodies for long-term protection.
