Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2 IgM

IgM (Immunoglobulin M) is the first antibody the body manufactures when it encounters HSV-1 (typically oral) or HSV-2 (typically genital). It usually becomes detectable within 7 to 10 days after a primary infection. However, unlike many other viruses where IgM disappears forever after the initial illness, HSV IgM can be complicated and “re-appear” during later outbreaks.
