Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2 IgG & IgM

The body produces two distinct waves of defense against the herpes virus:

  • IgM (The Early Marker): This antibody usually appears 7–10 days after exposure. It indicates the body is currently fighting a “new” invader. However, IgM can sometimes reappear during a severe “flare-up” or reactivation.
  • IgG (The Permanent Record): This antibody takes longer to develop (4–12 weeks). Once it appears, it stays in the blood for life. It is the gold standard for knowing if you are a carrier of the virus.
