CD3 is a protein complex found on the surface of all mature T-lymphocytes (T-cells). Because it is present from the early stages of development until the cell dies, it is considered the most reliable “pan-T-cell” marker.
- The “T-Cell” Fingerprint: If a cell stains positive for CD3, it is definitively a T-cell.
- The Diagnostic Role: It helps pathologists distinguish between different types of inflammation and, more critically, between different types of lymphoma.
