A Cytology Examination (often called a “Cytology Smear”) is a diagnostic procedure that looks at individual cells or small clusters of cells to check for abnormalities, infections, or cancer.
Unlike a biopsy, which takes a solid “core” or piece of tissue, cytology focuses on cells that are shed naturally into fluids, scraped from a surface, or sucked out with a needle. It is essentially a “cellular level” inspection of your body’s health.
